Camp Lifetimes

Nature is a grief healer. Our day camps bring grieving children and nature together.

Camp Lifetimes is a special day for grieving children. It is a time for them to meet others who have experienced the death of a loved one and to share their feelings and concerns in a beautiful, natural setting. We now offer two sessions: one for children ages 5-12 and another for teens ages 13-18.

This year's Camp Lifetimes: Survivor Fernwood was held at a beautiful botanical garden and nature preserve in Niles, Michigan. Lory's Place staff and volunteers helped children learn about grief through a number of fun physical and mental challenges. In this peaceful setting, campers discovered that surviving grief takes a lot of energy, trust and teamwork. By days end, each child "survived" camp and brought home hope-filled memories.

Camper

The best part of Camp Lifetimes was making new friends that understand my feelings.

The 2011 Camp Lifetimes: Survivor Five Pines gave grieving teens an opportunity to meet peers who are on a similar grief pathway. Along with the Lory's Place staff and volunteers, Five Pines Ministries' staff created a special day of challenging activities. Team building, a high ropes course and climbing helped the teens explore their grief. They discovered hands-on how working through grief takes the same tools needed to get through the camp's courses: communication, trust, courage and physical strength. There were no weight limits for the activities and accommodations were made for teens with physical impairments. All the teens and adults facilitating the activities returned home stronger.
