Children
and their parents form the basis of our clientele. Because Lory's Place
operates primarily on the principal of peer-to-peer interaction, we call
those who use our services participants, rather than clients,
patients or customers. In general, we view children as the primary
participants, with parents and loved ones providing support,
reinforcement and perspective.
We want our
participants to feel free to express their thoughts, feelings and
emotions in whatever manner is most constructive for them. To help with
this, our staff members are picked and trained for their ability to
accept, rather than to judge, participants.
Our staff works to
initiate and facilitate interaction and growth. However, the primary
responsibility for both ultimately rests with the participants and their
loved ones.
